From the video vault: IWD special

Still seriously under the weather, so no real post tonight. Fear not, as soon as I’m feeling up to it there are several half-written posts to be hoked out of the bottom drawer.

Of course, you know what this means. It means a music post. And, being as this is International Women’s Day, you’re getting filler with added tokenism. Here’s Aunt Rosemary:

And here’s Julie:

Of course, there’s Patti:

Finally, we can’t be doing without Girlschool:

And with that, let’s raise a glass of red wine. Or a glass of Paracodol, as the case may be.

Well, you can’t go far wrong with Patti Smith. And managed to avoid going too deeply into kitschland this time…

Gotta love the Patti Smith version, but let’s remember who wrote the song:-

Patti Smith wrote the song… she also deserves acknowledgement for sticking with Ralph Nader when the rest of his celebrity backers deserted to support empire, slaughter and wage slavery. see:

Springsteen composed the music and chorus in 1976, but not the verses.
He gave it to Patti Smith who was recording in the studio next door.
She wrote the remaining words herself and it’s always credited as a joint composition.
Personally, I think her version is better, as is her attitude to the Democrats.

you are obviously a fan – thanks for the information. Despite his tepid politics, Springsteen at least has the best 4th of July song…

Great selection. I saw Bruce at Wembley in 84 and that track was probably the highlight, he finished with ‘ This land is my land’ with lyrics changed to ‘From the streets of Brixton to the New York islands’
