Here’s something you won’t read on Shiraz Socialist

It seems it’s not only Pat Robertson who has some weird ideas about the Haitian earthquake:

Rabbi Yehuda Levin, spokesman for the Rabbinical Alliance of America issued the following statement:

“When Americans are suffering economically and millions need jobs, it’s shocking that the Administration is focused on its ultra-liberal militantly homosexualist agenda forcing the highlighting of homosexuals and homosexuality on an unwilling military. This is the equivalent of the spiritual rape of our military to satisfy the most extreme and selfish cadre of President Obama’s kooky coalition.
We agree with Eileen Donnelly of the Center for Military Readiness that this will hurt the cohesiveness of the military, cause many to leave the army, and dramatically lower the number of recruits, perhaps leading to the reinstatement of a compulsory draft.

“Thirteen months before 9/11, on the day New York City passed homosexual domestic partnership regulations, I joined a group of Rabbis at a City Hall prayer service, pleading with G-d not to visit disaster on the city of N.Y. We have seen the underground earthquake, tsunami, Katrina, and now Haiti. All this is in sync with a two thousand year old teaching in the Talmud that the practice of homosexuality is a spiritual cause of earthquakes. Once a disaster is unleashed, innocents are also victims just like in Chernobyl.

“We plead with saner heads in Congress and the Pentagon to stop sodomization of our military and our society. Enough is enough.”

Now, imagine the shitstorm if this had been a Muslim cleric…

I’d love to find out who this guy’s idea of a “saner head” is.

I’m unsure about specifically earthquakes, but you’ve got to admit his general point is sound.

Admit it, Laban, you were chuckling as you wrote that – in merry anticipation of the flaming coming your comment’s way.

There’s a good American website which covers stuff from this angle, i.e. ‘here’s something being overlooked that would have made international news if some dodgy Muslim bloke said it’:

    http://www.loonwatch.com/

They’ve got something up about this in fact:

The content can be a bit repetitive though.

Indeed. But this is something of a weak point. All religions are replete with horrible murderous bigots. But, on the whole Christians and Jews are quite strong in condeming these views and dont present them as authorities on the religion. Of course loads of Muslims condemn crazy clerics, but you still see people like Yusuf al-Qaradawi (Hitler fan), referred to my prominent and government sponsored Muslim groups as a ‘respected scholar’ and an ‘authority on Islam’.

also there is also the more cliched, but still relevent, argument that in the west there is not a large amount of violent extremism among the jewish and christian population and the current terror threat is undoubtedly primarily from Islamists.

    Qaradawi reference:

in case you don’t speak arabic, there is also a translation for you, reproduced below:

“Throughout history, Allah has imposed upon the [Jews] people who would punish them for their corruption. The last punishment was carried out by Hitler. By means of all the things he did to them – even though they exaggerated this issue – he managed to put them in their place.

“This was divine punishment for them. Allah willing, the next time will be at the hand of the believers.”

As for your second point, I did say ‘IN THE WEST’ not ‘IN THE MIDDLE EAST.’ The point is that, as far as terrorism goes, our main problem here is the large amount of Islamist hate preachers that twist and manipulate the religion in order to convince young Muslims to commit acts of mass murder. If you don’t see that, then I cant really help you any further I’m afraid

    Johnd,

Iran has a huge Jewish minority. Tens of thousands. Islam has overall been very tolerant of Jews.

Nearly all radical Islamists are a reaction to imperialism, especially Palestine.

    Johnd,

Let me introduce you to Pastor John Hagee:

“God then sent the hunters. The hunter is one who pursues his target with force and fear. No one could see the horror of the Holocaust coming, but the force and fear of Hitler’s Nazis drove the Jewish people back to the only home God ever intended for the Jews to have — Israel. I stand amazed at the accuracy of God’s Word and its relevance for our time. I am stricken with awe and wonder at His boundless love for Israel and the Jewish people and His divine determination that the promise He gave Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob become reality.”
