Is there no stopping this woman?

Actually, it appears even Iris realises there are limits. From today’s Telegraph:

Iris Robinson today made an apparent U-turn over her controversial comments that homosexuality is “viler” than child sex abuse.

The First Minister’s wife told the House of Commons, during a debate on the assessment and management of sex offenders, that “there can be no viler act, apart from homosexuality and sodomy, than sexually abusing innocent children”.

When contacted by the Belfast Telegraph Mrs Robinson said that homosexuality was “comparable” to child abuse and that she feels “totally repulsed by both.”

“I cannot think of anything more sickening than a child being abused. It is comparable to the act of homosexuality. I think they are all comparable,” she said.

Later today however, she issued a fresh comment via the DUP press office stating: “I clearly intended to say that child abuse was worse even than homosexuality and sodomy … at no point have I set out to suggest homosexuality was worse than child sex abuse.”

Well, that’s all right then. I’m sure the gay community will be pleased to learn that Iris regards them as being not quite as bad as paedophiles.

I just read about this on the guardian and immediately fired of an angry post on my blog! my point is there are some things that you just do not say and this is one of them. I am so f*cked off about this, we all know that gay teenagers have a higher risk of suicide so what the f*ck is she playing at. What does she think a 12-year old who thinks he/she might be gay is going to feel like (or worse) do when they hear the wife of the NI 1st minister saying things like this! Unbelievable.

She claims she was misrepresented in her comments by the people who transcribed the committee meeting, but the Hansard people went over the record of the meeting again and are sticking by their transcript.

Can I assume that her differentiation between homosexuality and sodomy means that she is also sickened by heterosexual sodomy? I wouldn’t have thought with Peter as husband it would be a “big” deal.

It may be she’s not aware of its existence. But you could write to her and ask….

Her first statement demonstrates that she doesn’t take child sex abuse seriously. Her second statement is a belated attempt to correct that impression. Too late. Her secret is out. She’s a political posturer with no real beliefs just a thirst for power at the expense of the silly people and their prejudices.
